We recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of our nursing graduation, with a wonderful reunion on Saturday, November 19, hosted at the home of our classmate, Janis Esau.
The event was a true highlight, with classmates attending both in person and virtually via Zoom (from London England, Nova Scotia, San Francisco, Whistler and Victoria). During our 40-minute Zoom session, each of us shared a brief reflection on the past 50 years, and it was heartwarming to reconnect with old friends and peers.
The afternoon was filled with delicious food, punch, and lots of laughter. We enjoyed a celebratory toast with bubbly and, of course, a special 50th-anniversary cake! We were also excited to receive generous swag bag gifts from UBC to add to our larger reunion bag, which contained a reprint of our 1984 annual, a hard copy of everyone’s contact information, and a book on osteoporosis co-authored by one of our classmates. For those who couldn’t join us in person, we are in the process of mailing out the remaining swag bags.
The reunion would not have been possible without the efforts of our organizing team: Gwen Ellert, Janis Esau, Anne Kirkpatrick, and Tanice Miller. We’ve received many heartfelt emails from attendees, expressing how meaningful it was to reconnect after 50 years. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, and the excitement and joy were palpable, both before and after the event.
We are very grateful to the UBC Alumni Activity Fund for their generous $100 donation toward our event costs. Thank you for the support!
