This September, our group of UBC Mechanical Engineering '84 Grads got together to enjoy a tour on campus, as well as a bite to eat at Brown's Social House near the Nest. A few days later, we met again to play golf at Swaneset Golf Club out in Maple Ridge, which was followed by a barbeque at a classmate's house.
On Saturday, we had a reunion dinner at the University Golf Club, which was attended by 34 Mech '84 grads (about 1/3 of our class) and 18 spouses/partners for a total of 52 people. The venue, drinks, appetizers, dinner, and dessert were amazing and everyone had a great time. There was music from the early 1980s, memorabilia on display (Slipsticks, Engineer's ball programs, and songbooks to name a few), and photos from years at UBC and from the various reunions we have had since then (10-year at Cecil Green, 20-year at a Greek restaurant on Broadway, 30-year at a restaurant on Coal Harbour, 35-year at a restaurant on False Creek, plus two other smaller get-togethers at classmates' houses between our 20th-year and 30th-year).
After dinner, we enjoyed a commentary, a Mech '84 trivia session, an open mike, and a lot more socializing. Everyone agreed that we should make an effort to keep in-touch and that more frequent get-togethers should take place. Although our 40th reunion event just ended, we're incredibly excited for another big get-together for our 50th!
