27 enthusiastic members of the UBC Engineering class of 1958 and four wives attended the 57th reunion lunch on Sept. 24, 2015 at the West Vancouver Yacht Club. Top honours for coming the longest distance went to Rod (BASc ’58 MECH) and Margaret Keech of Auburn, Indiana, USA, followed by Bob Irwin (BASc ’58 ELEC) of Calgary, AB, Ron Johnson (BASc ’58 MECH) of Everett, WA, and Norm Dinsmore (BASc ’58 CIVL) of Saltspring Island, BC.
After the lunch, Bob Dolphin (BASc ’58 CIVL) gave an interesting talk on his career, and particularly on the disassembly of the old Port Mann Bridge over the Fraser River. Rod Keech spoke on his travels all over North America with wife Margaret in their Class B motor home. Chris Huntley (MASc ’60 ENPH) gave a summary of the evolution of process control electronics and telemetry now being used in the power utility industry. Chris says he is still working full time in system design (Can you believe that - he is still working!!)
The 58th reunion lunch is planned for the fourth Thursday of September 2016 at the West Vancouver Yacht Club. The annual Engineering lunches for the UBC class of 1958 are organized by Ed Frazer (BASc ’58 ELEC), Russ Fraser (BASc ’58 MECH) and a large group of volunteers.
