This was Coralie Tcheuné’s response when asked what makes her UBC Engineering experience unique. While the answer might be unconventional or surprising at first, anyone who knows Coralie would see exactly how her response reflects her extensive list of commitments and passions perfectly.

“On Saturdays, you can find me leading 9AM management meetings as Co-Captain of UBC’s Biomedical Engineering Student Team (BEST) and creating a physical simulation of a whale’s heart as a member of one of BEST’s projects. Sundays are when I release my robotics obsession, creating algorithms to control the arm of an autonomous robot for UBC Open Robotics. These projects have helped me to build new skills outside the classroom while helping me to find new and wonderful student communities."

Coralie makes the most of her time as a UBC student by not being afraid to explore the whole range of diverse interests and establish herself as not only an innovator in engineering, but an educator to her peers.

"I’m also very big on working towards equity and diversity in any capacity and through clubs, I have been able to help and amplify the voices of marginalized communities at UBC. I am a member of UBC’s Black Student Union, a co-chair for the EUS Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity and Indigeneity Committee, and a mentor for my discipline’s Mentorship Program.”

The possibilities are endless as a UBC engineering student, and students like Coralie refuse to be pigeonholed into one identity. After all, as the slogan of the university states, the true nature of a UBC degree: tuum-est (It's yours, and it's up to you)!
