On Thursday, September 28, the UBC Engineering class of 1958 celebrated its 65th Reunion. Of the 200 or so young engineers who graduated in 1958, the reunion committee still keeps in touch with about 80 colleagues scattered around the world, with many living in the lower mainland and on the North Shore.
Event organizer, Ed Frazer, P. Eng. of West Vancouver has been Chair of the Reunion Committee since the 50th reunion in 2008, and has organized an annual reunion luncheon ever since, except
during Covid when the reunion was held on-line with Zoom.
This year, being the 65th anniversary since graduation, was a special occasion with 65 graduates, family and friends gathering at the Arbutus Club in Vancouver. Special guests included Dr, James Olson, UBC’s Dean of Applied Science and Dr. Ralph Sultan of West Vancouver, MLA for West Vancouver-Capilano from 2001 to 2020. Dr. Sultan graduated from UBC in Mechanical Engineering in 1956, but has been an honoured guest at our reunions.
During the reunion, Dean James Olson congratulated the 1958 class for hosting the greatest number of reunions of any faculty at UBC, and pointed out that its graduates were involved in the construction of major infrastructure projects in BC.
The Reunion ended with the reading of messages from colleagues who could not attend, and a reminder that the 66th reunion will be held in September 2024.
