Peter Bradshaw
Dr. Peter Bradshaw was raised in a small lumbering town in the Ottawa Valley. An intrepid explorer and passionate learner from the start, he obtained a BSc in geology from Carleton University in Ottawa and earned his PhD from Durham University in England. He has since served the mining industry with distinction for more than forty years, and was inducted to the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.
Peter’s early career began with Barringer Research, which gave him the opportunity to publish a book detailing ground-breaking oil, gas, and mineral exploration methods and environmental monitoring techniques. Peter then joined Placer Dome where he was instrumental in advancing the Misima mine in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and both the Kidston and Big Bell mines in Australia. These were punctuated by his role in the Porgera project in PNG. In a career-defining move, his last-ditch exploration program led to the discovery of Zone VII, making Porgera one of the world’s top ten producing gold mines.
As a long-time supporter of mining and minerals research, Peter was the driving force behind the formation of the Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU), and more recently, the Bradshaw Research Initiative for Minerals and Mining (BRIMM), both at UBC.
Peter is now Co-founder and Chairman of FPX Nickel, whose flagship Decar project in central BC is paving the way for the commercial viability of awaruite, a new and unique type of nickel deposit. He has supported several start-up ventures, and is an investor on the board of five private companies that have roots at UBC.
