Patricia Rodney
MSN '88, PhD '97
Dr. Patricia (Paddy) Rodney graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Nursing in 1977. After working in a northern nursing outpost and then hospital-based critical care nursing, she commenced graduate studies at the UBC School of Nursing. Under the expert methodological guidance of supervisor Dr. Joan Anderson, she focused her research on health care ethics, particularly the moral climate of health care delivery and end-of-life decision-making.
Over her career, Paddy has worked with colleagues to address the difficulties nurses and other health care professionals experience with practice challenges in health care delivery. She has a particular interest in influencing policy, and served as an expert member on a Canadian panel on Medical Assistance in Dying from 2016-2018.
Paddy has taught leadership, ethics, policy, relational practice, and nursing knowledge in nursing programs at UBC. She has also mentored numerous graduate students in nursing, as well as several in inter-professional programs.
