
Malcolm Metcalfe
Malcolm is an electrical engineer, with more than 40 years experience in energy and related areas. He began his energy career working as a hydro plant operator when he was a student. Malcolm graduated as an Electrical Engineer at UBC in 1967, and earned an M.A.Sc. (EE) in 1970.
He worked for Leeds and Northrup, and later for BC Hydro, where he was responsible for designing Automatic Generation Control systems and Control Centres.
Malcolm spent a year in 1979 on the organizing staff for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conference, and later became the founding Executive Director of the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference (1983). He was made a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) by HM Queen Elizabeth II for this work in 1999.
After early retirement, he founded Enbala Power Networks, and where he remains the CTO and Founder of the company.
Malcolm remains a keen contributor to the energy field, working at Enbala and teaching engineering courses on Power System Design at UBCO. He is also enrolled as a PhD student in Electrical Engineering at UBCO, where he is working on a concept to integrate renewable energy sources into the existing power grid.
