
John Grace
After finishing a Cambridge PhD and 11 years as a McGill faculty member, John Grace became Head of UBC Chemical Engineering in 1979. He later was Dean of Graduate Studies and Clean Energy Research Centre Director. He held a Canada Research Chair from 2001 until retiring in 2014. With >600 publications, >24,000 citations and h-index=70, he is a leading expert on fluidization, multiphase systems and reactors. He has supervised >100 graduate students, plus many PDFs, visitors and undergraduates.
Grace has often been a consultant, chaired major conferences and served on national committees. He is a former President of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering and Chemical Institute of Canada. He was a founder of Membrane Reactor Technologies. He won the CSChE Jane Award, CIC Montreal Medal and AIChE Particle Technology Award. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Canadian Academy of Engng, Engng Institute of Canada and CIC, and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
