
Hugh Brock
BS’77
Dr. Hugh Brock has been with the University of British Columbia since 1982, and serves as Associate-Provost of Academic Innovation. In this role, Dr. Brock has overseen the evolution of UBC Continuing Studies into UBC Extended Learning. Its mandate is to support faculties in growing UBC’s offerings related to Career and Personal Education for working professionals and students of all ages and backgrounds. Dr. Brock holds a Doctorate of Philosophy from Oxford University, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia. He was an EMBO Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Paris (1981), and a Jane Coffin Childs Fellow at the University of Washington (1981). In 2002, Dr. Brock was awarded the Killam Teaching Award, UBC’s highest award for teaching. In 2002 to 2003, he was President of the Genetics Society of Canada. In his free time, Dr. Brock is a part-time musician, sound engineer, gardener, cook, winebibber, birder, walker, and cyclist who enjoys travelling, and spoiling animals and children.
