UBC Applied Science appoints Associate Dean, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion pro tem

Dr. Agnes d’Entremont has been appointed Associate Dean, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion pro tem from August 5, 2024 until June 30, 2025. The Associate Dean, EDI leads equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenous (EDI.I) engagement initiatives for the Faculty of Applied Science. 

Dr. d’Entremont is an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She has a substantial history in supporting EDI.I in engineering, including participating in STEM outreach programs for women and girls, helping student organizations such as Women in Engineering, and supporting individual students. 

She co-created an EDI curriculum for the Mech 2 program, and has built a track record of scholarship, particularly around gender and decisions on entering engineering and selecting disciplines, EDI.I in curriculum and STEM outreach. Through this work, she has engaged with many groups within UBC Engineering focused on advancing equity, plus a range of scholars across Applied Science, UBC and beyond. 

With the goal of moving toward Reconciliation in technical fields of study at the university, Dr. d’Entremont has worked closely with colleagues from five faculties at UBC Vancouver in creating a bridging program for Indigenous students entering STEM degrees. She has also been involved in the Disability Affinity Group for faculty and staff, and is keen to further develop and bring a disability and intersectional lens to her future work.

Dr. d'Entremont is taking on the role from Dr. Sheryl Staub-French, who is serving as Head pro tem of Civil Engineering.
