UBC Applied Science-affiliated projects receive knowledge translation support from Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research
Health projects involving UBC Applied Science researchers have received funding through two programs administered by the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR): the Convening & Collaborating (C2) Program and the Reach Program.
Both programs support project teams' knowledge translation activities, "[creating] pathways from research evidence to practice and [helping] ensure that cutting-edge health research can directly improve health outcomes for people and communities in British Columbia," according to the MSFHR announcement.
The UBC Applied Science-affiliated projects — three of which are led by UBC School of Nursing faculty members: Dr. Jennifer Baumbusch, Dr. Helen Brown and Dr. Kristen Haase — address issues ranging from food justice and bereavement to public washroom safety for substance users and overdoses among formerly incarcerated people.
The C2 Program aims to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange among health researchers, trainees and research users like patients and caregivers, thereby increasing the relevance and impact of the research. The Reach Program seeks to help research teams reach people who could benefit directly from their work, such as through social media initiatives, patient forums and other means of "research dissemination".
This year, a total of 32 research teams across the province were funded through the MSFHR C2 and Reach competitions. For information about the UBC-led projects, please see the announcement on the UBC Research + Innovation website.
