Ray Cole appointed to the Order of Canada
Ray Cole, Professor Emeritus in the UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA), was named a Member of the Order of Canada by Governor General Julie Payette on June 27, 2019. His citation recognizes his "his skilful pairing of architecture and environmental sustainability, and ... his leadership in the field."
Cole taught at SALA for 40 years, serving as director between 2006 and 2009, before retiring in 2017. His outstanding teaching in the fields of environmental issues, regenerative design and environmental performance in building design has been recognized by a number of awards. Cole has long been a leader in the profession and continues to make an enduring impact as an advocate for sustainable buildings.
In addition to his Order of Canada appointment, Cole is an Honorary Member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia and a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
The Order of Canada is one of the country's highest civilian honours, with appointments made by the Governor General on advice of the Advisory Council for the Order of Canada. Recipients are selected based on outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
