Overview

Launched in 2017, the New Carbon Economy Consortium (NCEC) is a growing alliance of 16 universities, national labs, and NGOs working in partnership with industry leaders to build a carbon-conscious world convened by Arizona State University’s Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory (ASU GFL) in partnership with Carbon180. Through a robust network, the NCEC continues to build the intellectual basis for engineered, biological and social solutions, and – most importantly – their implications for society.

The NCEC 2024 Annual Meeting will be held April 29 - May 1 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada where participants can share their latest research and updates, engage in discussions in CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) and work with new carbon economy companies to troubleshoot and consult on current industry challenges.

Travelling to Vancouver

We recommend that you travel into Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in Richmond, BC, which is approximately 12 km from Downtown Vancouver, and 15 km from The University of British Columbia.

From Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Your Hotel / UBC Campus

Transportation from the airport into the city is available in several forms: hired car services such as traditional taxis, Uber and Lyft, car rental/share services such as Evo or Zipcar, or public transportation.

For your reference, a traditional taxi from YVR to UBC would take roughly $45 and about 30 minutes, where taking public transportation would take roughly $10 and 60 minutes.

We recommend using Google Maps to plan your travel while visiting Vancouver, as it will provide accurate estimates for travel times and public transit schedules.

Parking at UBC

There are three main Parkades available to attendees: the North Parkade, the Health Science Parkade and the University Blvd. Lot. Locations are identified on the UBC Parking Map. Parking spaces are available on a first-come, first served basis, with regular rates of $4/hr or $20.00/day (with the exception of the University Blvd. Lot) and are open 24/7. Note that both regular and accessible parking at UBC can be challenging at times so please allow extra time to find a stall and get to your destination.

To buy your parking permit online or check rates, see the UBC Parking Permits & Rates page.
