This Initiative is organized and led by EDI and Indigeneity Office at the Faculty of Applied Science.
Join us for Access Quest this October! We invite students, faculty, staff and community members to explore the UBC Vancouver campus and share what you notice about spaces, environments and features that either support access or make access more difficult. This is your quest - find and share accessibility barriers and gold stars across campus. Every barrier or gold star you share gives you a chance to win an exciting prize!
This event welcomes everyone, including disabled and non-disabled folks, people living with chronic illness or injuries and anyone who wants to help make UBC more accessible. Your responses will help us better understand accessibility across campus and inform future planning and developments.
Access Quest will run from Oct. 1 to 31, 2026. Participate throughout the month!

Explore UBC Vancouver and share what you notice about accessibility across campus! Tell us what works, what could be better, and how different spaces, environments and features shape your day-to-day experiences at UBC! With each submission, share up to 3 photos of the space or feature you’re highlighting. Be sure to leave your email to enter the prize draw!

Purpose
Accessibility is essential to meaningful participation in campus life. In Canada, 27% of people aged 15 and older, or approximately 8 million people, had at least one disability in 2022. This is directly relevant to the UBC community, where 19.8% of UBC Vancouver students identified as Disabled People or people living with disabilities in the Student Diversity Census. Access Quest recognizes that campus spaces and environments can shape how people participate in university life, and seeks to better understand these experiences across physical, outdoor, built, and digital spaces. We will forward the responses to UBC Facilities and EIO in order to help prioritize future planning and initiatives.
This is the first ever UBC community-based data collection around access. Submissions will help inform future planning and development; while immediate fixes may not be possible, your contributions will help UBC make a more accessible future.
Prizes
Prizes include 12 x $30 UBC Bookstore gift certificates and 8 x swag packs (3 gift certificates and 2 swag packs per category).
Every submission will be added to a prize draw in four prize categories:
- Students — Gold stars
- Faculty & Staff — Gold stars
- Students — Barriers
- Faculty & Staff — Barriers
Submit as many times as you want! The more responses you submit, the more chances to win!
