At the UBC Faculty of Applied Science, we have long believed that the disciplines we are connected to--engineering, architecture and landscape architecture, planning and nursing--should be as diverse as the communities they serve.
To this end, the Faculty has made equity, inclusion and Indigeneity among its top priorities. Indeed, as key parts of the UBC Applied Science Strategic Plan, they influence all decisions and investments made across the Faculty’s five schools and six departments.
We are committed to building a community that is diverse and inclusive as the people our professions serve. We are committed to decolonization and bringing Indigenous ways of knowing to our schools and departments. We recognize that we all have an integral part to play to ensure that our community of students, staff and faculty are educated about equity, diversity and inclusion and have a foundational understanding of Indigenous people and issues. All faculty, staff and students in Applied Science need to have a fundamental understanding of anti-racism, decolonization, Indigenization and EDI.
This website is a part of how we will deliver on our commitment to bringing a fundamental understanding to all faculty, staff and students. This website reflects our commitment to truth and reconciliation, inclusive leadership and advancing diversity. It offers resources for faculty, staff and students seeking to learn more about topics including anti-racism and Indigenization, as well as training opportunities relating to equity, diversity and inclusion.
We hope you find this information to be of value in your professional and personal lives, inspiring us all to strive towards a more equitable world.
