A few UBC APSC graduates currently working in the Greater Seattle area with a mutual connection to a major North American construction firm met to discuss the process of registering in Washington state as a graduate of a Canadian university. While all of us are registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, it was evident that our different registration statuses (two P.Eng's and one EIT) presented different paths to registration in the US. Factors for each us to consider include requirements for PE status with our respective employers and preferred geographical work location. The consensus was that there was no clear and simple solution, as we each have unique work and life goals. This gathering also gave us the opportunity to discuss the general state of the construction industry in North America and our different career plans for the future.
