This March, a group of APSC alumni gathered in Vancouver for a long-overdue reunion. While most of us started university together, five were from the Class of 2023 and three from the Class of 2024. Each of us was excited to have an excuse to catch up—especially those who only make bi-yearly appearances!
The evening kicked off in the kitchen, where we came together to prepare a delicious dinner of sushi and salad rolls. With so many hands in the mix, it quickly became a lively group effort. Once everything was moved to the dining table, we realized some ingredients were out of reach, so we naturally fell into a rhythm of passing things around and helping each other. For some, this was their first time making sushi, which led to plenty of teamwork, advice, and laughter as we experimented with rolling techniques. We even made the rookie mistake of using paper plates when the salad rolls required proper plates—another funny moment in our shared adventure.
Cooking together felt like a throwback to the good old days when we saw each other all the time—whether in lectures, study sessions, or late-night food runs. After enjoying the satisfying meal, we tackled the cleanup as a team. In true engineer fashion, we set up an efficient cleaning line, passing dishes, wiping counters, and putting everything away in record time. What could have been a chore turned into another fun group effort.
Once the kitchen was spotless, we fully relaxed and transitioned to games. The night quickly turned competitive with a lively session of Dutch Blitz—a game most of us had only learned the week before. It required fast hands, quick reflexes, and a sharp eye, which sometimes led to hilarious mistakes. Friendly banter filled the room as we jokingly accused each other of being too fast or cheating with lucky hands. The goal was simple: everyone wanted to win at least one round before the night ended. But as hours passed and rounds kept going, we realized that wasn’t going to happen—we ran out of time. With some still winless, we joked that they'd have to redeem themselves at the next reunion.
Thanks to the funding support, we were able to bring more friends together for a night of great food, fantastic conversations, and lasting memories. Since in-person reunions are rare, this one felt especially special. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
