
Thomas Tiedje
BASc in Engineering Science, from University of Toronto in 1973, summer work in geological exploration with Cominco in the Arctic islands, and Mobil Oil in Calgary. MSc, PhD (1977) from UBC in Solid State Physics, then research staff member, thin film photovoltaics, Exxon Research and Engineering Co, Clinton NJ. In 1987 became faculty member in Physics and Astronomy, and Electrical and Computer Engineering Departments at UBC, served as founding director of the Advanced Materials and Process Engineering Lab at UBC, and Head of Physics and Astronomy (1997-2001). Visiting researcher at FZ Juelich, Germany, and Tohoku University, Japan. Dean of Engineering and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Victoria (2008 – present). Led successful effort to establish a new Civil Engineering Department at the University of Victoria. Fellow of American Physical Society, Royal Society of Canada, Canadian Academy of Engineering, and Canadian Society of Senior Engineers.
