
Richard Kerekes
Dr. Kerekes was appointed an Honorary Professor in Chemical Engineering at UBC in 1978 to initiate a co-operative post-graduate program between Paprican and UBC. He was the founding Director of the UBC Pulp and Paper Centre, which opened in January 1986. In 2001, Dr Kerekes was appointed Paprican Professor of Pulp and Paper Engineering at UBC. He retired from UBC in 2005 and served until 2010 as director of PAPIER, an organization of Canadian university academics involved in pulp and paper research. In 1993, Prof Kerekes was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. In 1999, Prof Kerekes was awarded the John S. Bates Memorial Gold Medal of the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada and in 2010 he was the recipient if the TAPPI Gunnar Nicholson Gold Medal. Dr. Kerekes is currently professor emeritus at UBC and retains interests in fibre processing and papermaking.
