
George Poling
Professor Emeritus, Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining and Engineering
Dr. George W. Poling currently serves as Chairman of Board and Director for BQE Water Inc. Some of his highlighted previous positions include Chair and Director of ICPotash, President, CEO and Director of Trigon Exploration Canada, and Senior Vice President of Rescan Environmental Services. He also served on the Board of Directors of Dia Met Minerals Limited, which discovered the Ekati Mine, North America's first commercial diamond mine. Dr. Poling is also a Professor Emeritus and a former Head of the Department of Mining and Mineral Process Engineering at UBC where he taught from 1968 to 1997. After 29 years of service, his expertise covers all areas of mineral processing with particular emphasis on solid/liquid separation, froth flotation, gold recovery, diamond processing, bulk materials handling, and environmental protection. He is one of Canada's leading experts in the mineral processing and environmental management of mining operations. Previously, Dr. Poling served as an Engineer of the underground Roan Antelope Copper Mine in Zambia and as a miner at Eldorado Uranium Mine at Beaverlodge, Saskatchewan. Dr Poling also served as Research Director of the B.C. Mining Association. He was a member and a Chairman of the Technical Environmental Advisory Committee for BHP's Island Copper Mine on Vancouver Island. Dr. Poling holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering in 1957, a Master of Engineering in Mining and Metallurgy in 1961, and a PhD in Mineral Process Engineering in 1963 - all from the University of Alberta.
