Edward McBean
Following receipt in 1968 of his BASc in Civil Engineering from UBC, Ed went to grad school at MIT, receiving his S.M. (1970), CE (1971) and PhD (1973) magna cum laude. After a post-doc at Cornell, Ed joined the faculty at Waterloo and Univ California Davis. He then moved to the private sector for a decade as a VP at one of the largest engineering firms in Canada. Ed returned to academia 12 years ago, to the University of Guelph as a Canada Research Chair in Water Supply Security and A/Dean of the College of Physical and Engineering Science. An expert in risk assessment and water security, Ed has experience in more than 70 countries, working with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNESCO, UNDP and others, particularly on low tech water supply. Ed has published 3 books, edited 17 books, authored 325 papers in the refereed literature and more than 450 presentations at conferences.
