Dean James Olson announces new Faculty appointments
A message from James Olson, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science
The Faculty has made tremendous progress toward our strategic plan over the last few years, very much in part because of the tremendous group of school directors and department heads.
I'm pleased to announce that two of our leaders, whose terms were coming to an end, have had their appointments extended for another five years. The appointment extension consideration was conducted in accordance with UBC policy AP9 and established procedures in the Faculty of Applied Science. Appointment committees met with the incumbents and sought written feedback from members of their school/ department, which ultimately led to the reappointment of both leaders, as detailed below.
To that end, I'm pleased to announce the following term extensions within the Faculty of Applied Science.
Dr. Heather Campbell
Re-appointed Director, School of Community and Regional Planning, starting July 1, 2024
I'm delighted that Dr. Heather Campbell has agreed to serve as Director for a second term. I will continue to work with her to ensure SCARP achieves its goals and aspirations.
Dr. Campbell is currently on a one-year administrative leave and will start her second term as Director when she returns on July 1, 2024. Dr. Kelly Clifton will continue in the role of Director, pro tem, until June 30.
Dr. Steve Feng
Re-appointed Head, Mechanical Engineering, July 1, 2024
I am delighted that Dr. Feng has agreed to be extended for another term and I look forward to working with him in his continuing role as Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Feng is currently on a one-year administrative leave and will start his second term as Head when he returns on July 1, 2024. Dr. Ollivier-Gooch will continue as Head, pro tem, until June 30, 2024.
