Dr. Sally Thorne named recipient of alumni UBC Faculty Community Service Award
Dr. Sally Thorne, a professor in the School of Nursing and a UBC Applied Science alumna, has been named the recipient of alumni UBC’s Faculty Community Service Award. The award aims to honour a UBC faculty member or professor emeritus “who has rendered significant community service in areas other than teaching and research.”
A member of the faculty at the UBC School of Nursing since 1983, and director of the School from 2002 to 2010, Dr. Thorne was recognized for measurably improving the quality of healthcare provision, prioritizing the humanization of nursing practice and playing an instrumental role in shaping nursing education in BC, among other achievements.
Dr. Thorne will be honoured along with six other members of the UBC community at the annual alumni UBC Achievement Awards, which will take place as a free virtual gala this November.
