New SCARP director announced

Heather Campbell, a professor of Town and Regional Planning and an advisor in the Office of the Vice Chancellor at the University of Sheffield, has been named the new director of UBC's School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP). Her five-year appointment will begin on September 1, 2018.

One of the world’s foremost planning theorists, Campbell previously headed the University of Sheffield’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning and served as Deputy Chair of both the Research Assessment Exercise Sub-panel for Town and Country Planning and the Education Commission of the Royal Town Planning Institute, the largest planning institute in Europe.

Campbell’s research explores, among other things, how ethical values can be incorporated into public policy relating to city and regional planning and how academics can work more effectively with non-academics to enhance the relevance and impact of their research. A Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, Campbell holds a BA in geography from Durham University and an MA and PhD in Town and Regional Planning from the University of Sheffield.
