We had a great mini-reunion! Luke and his wonderful partner, Grace, flew in from San Diego where they are both pursuing their PhD's. Shelby, who graduated from the UBC-O International Relations program in 2019, flew in from Alberta! Erin, Andrew, and Mitch have all recently become Kelowna locals after being spread out around BC working for the last few years since we all graduated, so it was great to have everyone together again.
We started our night by going to our favourite brewery from our time at UBC-O, Barn Owl Brewing. We used to go there on Friday afternoons after our last classes of the week to grab a beer and study upstairs. Many fun study sessions were spent here and it was great to be back. When we used to study here back in 2019/2020 it was still a very new brewery (opened July, 2019) and usually fairly quiet, so when we walked in to find it completely packed we were definitely surprised. So great to see how it's grown over the years but we’re all very glad they’ve kept their tried-and-true brews on the menu all this time.
Funnily enough, we actually ran into two other APSC Alumna from our year while we were here! We snapped our group photo outside on the patio. We thought about going downtown for dinner, but after a few drinks we decided it would be nice to just head home, order from our old favourite Indian Food place down the road, Made In India, and catch up on everyone’s lives over some food, music, and card games. It was a lovely night of reminiscing over old memories. We’re very grateful for our Alumni program that help make nights like this happen. Looking forward to the next one!
