Peter Ostafichuk

“Dr. Pete” is a professor of teaching in Mechanical Engineering and the Chair of First Year Engineering UBC. He led the development of the award winning Mech 2 Program, and is currently leading the redesign of the first year engineering program. He teaches a wide range of courses, from an introduction to engineering, to mechanical design, to the hydrodynamics of and control of ships. He has a particular interest in the use of teams in teaching and learning, and has co-authored many papers and a book on the topic. Outside of teaching, he is an aerodynamics consultant to organizations like Nike, BC Hydro, and the Canadian Olympic teams.
