
Pearl Sullivan
Pearl (Lee) Sullivan received her BEng with distinction (1985) and MASc (1986) degrees from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in metallurgical engineering. In 1990, she earned a PhD in the area of composite materials from the Department of Materials Engineering at UBC. After starting her academic career at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 1991, she returned to Canada in 1994 to join the University of New Brunswick where she was twice honoured with the UNB Faculty Merit Award for Excellence. In 2004, Dr. Sullivan joined the University of Waterloo’s Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering and served as its Department Chair from 2006 to 2011. She was recognized with the university’s Outstanding Performance Award in 2009. She was the founding Director of the Engineering-Science graduate program in Nanotechnology before being appointed Dean of Engineering in July 2012. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (U.K.).
