Pamela Ratner
Pamela’s influence on nursing education is far reaching. As a respected leader in higher education, she has created meaningful change through her research and by her commitment to impactful projects at UBC like the Gateway Building and the Ratner Johnston Endowment.
With a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Nursing, and a doctoral degree from the University of Alberta, as well as a postgraduate epidemiology certificate from Tufts University, Pamela is well versed in many aspects of nursing education. She joined the UBC Institute of Health Promotion Research as a Medical Research Council and Killam Postdoctoral Fellow in 1995. The following year, Pamela was appointed to the UBC School of Nursing and promoted to professor in 2004.
Pamela has not just developed an extensive research program, but has published widely and supported numerous graduate students. Her scholarship focuses on computational socio-behavioural epidemiology and psychometrics, primarily focused on heart health and behaviour associated with cardiovascular disease. She was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2007 and served in various leadership positions at UBC, culminating in her 2015 appointment as the Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Enrolment and Academic Facilities, a position she held until 2021.
Now “retired,” Pamela is a trustee of the UBC Faculty Pension Plan, the vice-president of Early Music Vancouver and a volunteer with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
