J Peter Meekison
J. Peter Meekison, O.C., LLD, Ph.D.
Dr. J. Peter Meekison is Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of Political Science of the University of Alberta having retired from the university in June 1996.
While he was Deputy Minister of Alberta’s Department of Federal and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dr. Meekison was involved in the constitutional negotiations leading to the patriation of the Constitution in 1982. He returned to the University of Alberta as Vice President, Academic. In 1993 he was appointed as a Commissioner on the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples.
In 2004 he was appointed as Public Administrator of Okanagan University College to facilitate the transition from the existing University College into the University of British Columbia, Okanagan and Okanagan College.
He served on the Board of Royal Roads University for six years and as Board Chair and Chancellor for three years. He served on the BC Electoral Boundaries Commission in 2012.
