George Homsy
G. M. “Bud” Homsy received all his degrees in Chemical Engineering and taught at Stanford (1970-2000) and UCSB (2000-2009) before joining UBC in late 2009. His activities at UBC included serving as Deputy Director of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences, and joint appointments in Math and MECH. His research specialty is fluid mechanics and transport phenomena in which he has published over 250 papers in the lead journals in that field. His honours include the Fluid Dynamics Prize of the American Physical Society. He is a Fellow of the APS and a member of both the US National Academy of Engineering and the Washington State Academy of Sciences. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Universite Paul Sabatier, Toulouse France, and the UBC Applied Science Dean’s Medal of Distinction.
