
Alice Baumgart
Alice Baumgart, B.S.N., M.Sc., Ph. D, LL. D (honours) , now retired, had a long career in university nursing education with faculty appointments at UBC, Queens University and Western Michigan University. At Queen’s University she served as Dean of Nursing for 15 years and was the first woman to hold the administrative post of Vice-principal.
An internationally known nursing leader, she held several national and international offices including President, Canadian Nurses Association and Board member, International Council of Nurses. She has a lengthy list of publications and is the co-author of a widely used textbook, Canadian Nursing Faces the Future.
Dr. Baumgart’s honours and awards include UBC’s Distinguished Alumni Award, the Distinguished Service Award of Queens University and the Ethel Johns Award for distinguished service to university education in Canada. She is also a recipient of Queen Elizabeth’s Silver and Golden Jubilee Commemorative medals.
