Every year the IEEE’s most prestigious honors are bestowed on a select group of individuals whose achievements and contributions have made a lasting impact on technology, society, and engineering. ECE Professor and former ICICS Director Rabab Ward has done all of this and more, and in recognition was given the IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing. The Fourier Award is given for “outstanding contributions to advancing signal processing techniques and their practical applications, and for technical leadership.”

Rabab’s stamp on ICICS, where she was Director from 1996 to 2007, lives on in the ICICS X-Wing, which she built and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment from a $24.2M CFI/BCKDF award she led, and the expansion of membership eligibility to across the campus and beyond. Her signal processing research contributions have been applied to cable TV, HDTV, medical images, infant cry signals, and brain-computer interfaces. The many graduate students she has mentored have moved on to become leaders in academia and industry.

Congratulations to Rabab on this well-deserved award, and the distinguished career it acknowledges.
