September 30 is an annual day to recognize and raise awareness about the residential school system in Canada, join together in the spirit of reconciliation, and honour the experiences of Indigenous Peoples. Orange Shirt Day commemorates this legacy.
The Faculty of Applied Science hosted an event on September 30, 2019 from 12-1pm as part of Orange Shirt Day:
Walk and learn together
We met at the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre, walked to the Reconciliation Pole and finished at the Engineering Cairn. The history of Indian residential schools was discussed as we walked this short route. Bannock was served before we commenced the walk, and we had a painting activity at the Cairn.
