On September 7, the University of British Columbia Chemical Engineering Class of ’95 reconnected following their 30th anniversary reunion earlier this summer. The group gathered once again—this time for a Wonder Walk, a guided cultural tour of Chinatown, led by their classmate Larry Chin.
Five graduates—Larry Chin, Ben Chow, Samir Shah, Jude Talbot, and Judi Wannaker—along with their families, came together for a memory-filled morning in historic Chinatown. The group explored more than century-old Chinese society buildings and hidden spaces that hold much of the neighborhood’s rich and often untold history.
The event offered an opportunity not only to learn more about Chinatown’s cultural legacy, but also to share stories of their own family ancestries. As they walked, they reflected on how their time at UBC shaped who they are today and influenced their professional journeys over the past three decades.
The guided tour concluded with visits to local eateries featuring handmade dumplings and a boutique bakery. While many wonderful photos were captured throughout the day, not a single image was taken of the food—our phones remained tucked away as the delicious treats quickly disappeared from our plates. Some moments are simply meant to be savored!
A heartfelt thank you to UBC’s Alumni Activity Fund for supporting programs like this that help alumni stay connected
