There’s something special about reconnecting with old friends, the kind of people who shared your late-night study sessions, helped you through exam season, and celebrated every small (and big) victory along the way. Recently, I had the pleasure of hosting a small get-together at my place with a few fellow UBC alumni and their partners, some of whom are current UBC students getting ready to graduate.
It was a casual, cozy evening that turned into a heartwarming walk down memory lane. The plan was simple: good pizza, great company, and a show we all loved during our time at university. Naturally, we ended up watching a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory, a classic that somehow never gets old and brings back a flood of memories from our student days. As we laughed at the familiar jokes and nerdy antics of Sheldon and the gang, it felt like we were right back in the common room after class, unwinding together.
Conversations flowed easily, from sharing updates on work and post-grad life to reminiscing about our favorite UBC professors, toughest assignments, and late-night coffee runs during exam week. Some of our guests are still wrapping up their time at UBC, and it was great hearing about how the campus and student experience continue to evolve. We swapped stories, shared advice, and offered words of encouragement for the exciting transitions ahead.
Hosting this gathering reminded me of how important it is to maintain the connections we build at university. Life after graduation can get busy, and it’s easy to lose touch, but events like this remind us that those bonds are worth holding onto. Whether it's over a slice of pizza or a shared laugh from an old sitcom, the moments we create together are the ones that stay with us.
As the evening wrapped up, we all agreed that we should make this a more regular tradition. After all, there’s always another episode to watch and another memory to revisit. Here’s to UBC, to friendship, and to many more reunions to come!
