Event details: The dream of space flight lives on at UBC, where a team of 50 engineering students are readying for this month’s Spaceport America Cup, an intercollegiate rocket competition that aims to inspire the next generation of aerospace engineers and scientists. The UBC entry is 2.5 metres tall with a carbon fibre body and three in-house designed payload units, and a goal of reaching an altitude of 10,000 feet into the air. The team will compete against more than 100 teams from colleges and universities from 11 countries at Spaceport America -- the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport located in southern New Mexico and currently home to Virgin Galactic and SpaceX.
