UBC Engineering welcomes two $80K scholarship recipients

Arthur Chen and Rika Sugimoto Dimitrova, first-year UBC Applied Science students, have each won $80,000 Schulich Leader scholarships for their promising academic potential, extracurricular achievements and interest in studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Both students entered their first year in Engineering at Applied Science this September.

A recent graduate of North Surrey Secondary School in Surrey, B.C., Chen frequently enters and wins academic competitions. He also participates with the Model United Nations and started a fundraising campaign for the United Nations’ humanitarian missions.

Rika Sugimoto Dimitrova

Sugimoto Dimitrova, a graduate from Semiahmoo Secondary School in Surrey, B.C., is an accomplished chess player and the champion of the 2014 Vancouver Brain Bee, a neuroscience competition for high school students. She also mentors both peers and younger students.
