About

Hosted by the Faculties of Applied Science and Land and Food Systems

The Dialogue Day for Grounding Anti-Oppression: Starting on Your Path is a chance to engage with practical strategies for grounding anti-oppressive strategies in the institutional setting. The focus of the Dialogue Day will be to engage in listening and learning, and a community lunch will be provided.

In this workshop, we will be touching on reframing our assumptions and expanding our worldviews, developing tools for engagement and sharing with challenges us in incorporating this work into university spaces as well as what motivates us to continue.

This event is in-person, however if there are accessibility concerns or if you are interested in joining virtually, please reach out to Shannon Robinson at Shannon.Robinson@ubc.ca.

Learning Objectives

Throughout the Dialogue Day, we hope participants will:

  • Engage in conversation about how we can create more caring and equitable spaces at UBC.

  • Be inspired to take on practical steps and strategies for implementing anti-oppression work within and across their departments and/or units.

  • Build community and networks of care to empower and support one another in this work.

Grounding Anti-Oppression

This workshop draws on material from the canvas course Grounding Anti-Oppression. Participants are encouraged to enroll in Grounding Anti-Oppression and continue in their learning journey.

“Grounding Anti-Oppression explores the ways in which systems of power and oppression are perpetuated at the individual, interpersonal, and community levels, alongside tools for how we can begin to collectively dismantle the systems that continue to cause harm within our community.”
